Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, is a singer-songwriter and Canadian American. Her catalog includes more than 20 albums. DiFranco's music is classified as folk, alternative and rock and pop, however she also draws influences of hip-hop and jazz. Ani DiFranco, who is widely known as the feminist's icon, and Grammy-winning performer, is regarded as the creator in DIY music. It was one of the pioneers to establish an independent label back in the year 1990. DiFranco was born in Buffalo New York on September 23rd 1970. She is the daughter Elizabeth (Ross) and Dante Americo DiFranco whom she had become acquainted while at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian heritage, and her mother comes from Montreal. Ani diFranco composed and performed the song 32 Flavors. The song was released on her 6th studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. A variation of the song appears on the film soundtrack to the 1999 Canadian love story Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco acknowledged her apology in 2013, when it became known that she was hosting a 3-day workshop on a Louisiana ex-slave plantation. She cancelled it but many (including this report) didn't detect remorse. DiFranco apologized several days afterward. Her name is associated with her Little Folksinger music, but she has worked with a variety of artists and genres that range from Pete Seeger to Chuck D. She lives in New Orleans.
